Konrad Wright

Senior DevOps Engineer

Summary

Senior DevOps engineer with fifteen-plus years in software — five of them building and securing AWS-hosted systems for federal government and enterprise clients, largely on AWS GovCloud: GitOps CI/CD on GitLab and ArgoCD, Kubernetes on Docker, and security remediation at scale (1,000+ Fortify findings resolved), with STIG compliance training. Previously CompTIA Security+ certified (2023–2026) and prepared to recertify on hire. U.S. citizen; prior DoD CAC holder on unclassified systems, eligible for reinvestigation. Open to government DevOps roles where security and end-to-end ownership matter.

Experience

  1. Founder & Independent Software Engineer · Self-directed

Feb 2025 – Present · Paso Robles, CA

Independent engineering across owned products, contract work, and self-funded experiments.

    • Built bighammergarage.com from scratch for a YouTube studio's merch store — every tool the client needs and none they don't, roughly two dozen shirt-and-hat sales to date, hosted for $12/year with no Shopify subscription to manage.
    • Shipped GrowGo's working prototype — a farmers-market marketplace on Flutter and Cloudflare Workers + D1 — after pitching it for VC funding in 2025.
    • Took Widda (widda.club), a monetization tool for YouTubers, through Chrome Web Store submission with a small launch team.
    • Built a Discord community and a custom bot using game-design principles — group accountability with a "casino points" carrot-and-stick loop.

Technologies: Cloudflare Pages, TypeScript, Laravel, Astro, Discord API

  2. DevOps Engineer · UNCOMN LLC

    Jan 2020 – Nov 2024 · Remote

Five years building and securing AWS-hosted systems — largely on AWS GovCloud — for federal government and enterprise clients. Owned Fortify/SAST security remediation and CI/CD across successive production contracts. Left when the contract concluded — UNCOMN had no other remote seats open, and relocating to the St. Louis office wasn't in the cards.

    • Resolved 1,000+ Fortify-flagged (SAST) security vulnerabilities, owning security remediation across five years of federal contracts — on CPA, ran bi-weekly Fortify scans and briefed findings through a legacy-modernization effort.
    • Built GitOps CI/CD on GitLab + ArgoCD on AWS GovCloud, retiring the prior Jenkins-only pipeline — recovered roughly one developer-day per two-week sprint and cut pipeline-environment issues in half.
    • Scripted and deployed the AWS Lambda + API Gateway layer behind 50+ automated jobs — the team pattern for Java/JavaScript services on Docker/Kubernetes, supporting systems used across US military bases, including every US installation in South Korea.
    • Ramped from junior hire to owning contract security work within six months, closing sprint work at roughly 6x peer rate (by Jira task points) on ICODES — a 30–40-developer ship and aircraft load-planning platform.
    • Performed code and security reviews, coordinated agile delivery with external client stakeholders, and completed STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) compliance training.

Technologies: AWS GovCloud, Kubernetes, Docker, GitLab, ArgoCD, Fortify, Java, Python

  3. Software Engineer · Draftboard

    Mar 2018 – Sep 2019 · Remote

Full-stack engineer on an iOS sports-drafting app. Took a half-finished product across the finish line; the company was acquired by DraftKings shortly after.

    • Drove a stalled iOS product to launch readiness; the company was acquired by DraftKings in 2019.
    • Mentored junior developers and ran user-feedback iterations into the dev cycle.

    Technologies: Swift, iOS, JavaScript

  4. Software Engineer · Cumulus Data Storage Solutions

    Nov 2015 – Jan 2018 · Remote

Database and data-visualization engineer for retail clients, primarily on BevMo's point-of-sale systems.

    • Charted point-of-sale data BevMo hadn't been able to visualize; the holiday stocking decisions it guided saved the client a few million dollars in one season.
    • Designed user-friendly visualizations of complex POS data to support decision-making.
    • Transitioned to consultancy at the end of the contract to support long-term client relationships.

    Technologies: SQL, JavaScript, Data Visualization

  5. Software Engineer · Neurotopia (SenseLabs LLC)

Jun 2010 – Nov 2015 · San Luis Obispo, CA

First professional role at an EEG neurotech startup. Owned the Ruby backend for the Neuro Headgear product, plus iPad games in Unity/Swift, plus the company website.

    • Developed and maintained the Ruby backend powering EEG Neuro Headgear — five-year ownership.
    • Built interactive iPad games in Unity and Swift for user engagement and EEG training.
    • Delivered talks at San Francisco conferences as a young engineer.
    • Mentored interns through their first technical challenges in the role.

    Technologies: Ruby, Unity, Swift, JavaScript
